It worked fine at the beginning. The microchip detection does not distinguish between the cat is coming from the inside or the outside. After we set that the cat can go out but not in, the lock got released when she tried to get in, and she has learnt how to use her claws to open it from the outside therefore that function was useless from that point. Also the timer got haywire after like 6 months so it's hectic when can she come in or out. I have to reset the clock every week to make it work.
